I have decided to share a family secret with all of you- my very own Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe. When people dig into them and ask you for the recipe, tell them it's a secret. It makes them want to eat even more! Oh well, so much for the diet.
Enjoy!

Marlee's Secret Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 cup (about 2 sticks) butter (margarine if you like, but butter makes a better cookie)
1 cup of brown sugar (firmly packed)
1/2 cup sugar (granulated, not powdered)
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour (all purpose kind)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
3 cups of uncooked oatmeal (Quaker Oats is best, quick or old fashioned)
1 cup of chocolate chips
Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Blend the butter and sugars until creamy. Add vanilla and eggs and beat well. Separately, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Add the flour/soda/cinnamon/salt mix to the butter/sugar/egg mix and mix well. Stir in oatmeal and chocolate chips. Mix well.
Drop rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet and remove to wire rack for further cooling (but my husband and kids like to eat them warm!).
Makes about 4 dozen cookies. For higher altitudes (for all you mountain goats out there) mix in 1 3/4 cups of flour instead of 1 1/2 cups.
