Volunteer San Jose police officers
Day 2 was the easiest route despite the fact that it had one very long, very steep hill. Many people came out to support us as we walked. We became to appreciate traffic lights, which insured us a brief rest and a good stretch, and if we were really lucky, a little flirty chit chat with a volunteer San Jose police officer.
The view from the top of the hill
I was in a lot of pain, and I was still trying to figure out how they could call day 2 the "hilliest" day. Of course I never referred to my route guide and had no clue that Hillcrest Boulevard's 900 foot hill was a mere .4 miles away. As I was walking, I remembered what Jeff had told me, walk (uphill) backwards. I shared my bottled water and some incredible conversation (with Arlene) as we huffed and puffed our way up the hill.
The neighbors
Back at the tent, I found Natalie examining her blisters. Walking down the rows of tents, people would sit outside with one leg outstretched and the over leg crossed over, comparing blisters, "Ohh, look at this one" and I got a new one today!" and "I need to pop this bad boy!"
A foggy morning start to Day 3
I couldn't believe day 3 was here. It was so foggy that you could barely see more than 20 feet in front of you. I spent the first hour of Day 3 reflecting on my experiences so far. I could not believe I was really going to do it! I was really going to walk every single mile!
Port a John aloha
One pit stop had a beautifully decorated Port a John, so we took a shot of Kevin posing with his 3 Day Today newspaper.
