How to Give Online

With so much shopping and marketing available to those on the web, it only makes sense that non-profits take advantage of this rich and captive market. There is now a range of ways for non-profits to raise funds either through their own website or through a charity shopping website.

Using your credit card to make a donation is now possible at many non-profit sites. Some of those that accept credit cards are The United Way, Doctors Without Borders, Unicef, as well as the World Wildlife Foundation. However, if the charity of your choice does not own a website, or accept credit cards then try allCharities.com. This website allows you to choose from thousands of charities, view their information and then make your donation. The great thing about this site is that you can give to more than one charity at the same time. They send you all the appropriate IRS paperwork as well as a letter of thanks! Very convenient and what a time saver.

Making a donation on-line is not limited to using your credit card. You can also make a contribution by downloading a stock-donation form to submit to your broker at the Red Cross Site.

If you feel that you have reached your donation limit, how about a free donation. Visit thehungersite.org and just click onto the "donate free food" button. This simple act donates 1 3/4 cups of rice to the United Nations World Food Program. (Just to be safe, you are limited to one click a day). If wildlife preservation is your passion, then go to care2.com. This site raises funds and awareness about the rainforest as well as the wildlife. You can either click a button to donated money to save the "big cats" like the snow leopard or preserve the rainforest. City of Hope has a similar click donation button. With one click you can donate to this medical center and research institute for life-threatening diseases. All of these websites are sponsored by e-tailers that advertise on the website so you can go shopping at their sites.

However, if you're in the mood for serious shopping, and would like to appease your guilty conscious at the same time then try shopping at a charity shopping mall. You can not only make a donation to the charity of your choice, but will also have something to show for it. At iGive.com choose from several on-line retailers, including babystyle, Borders and Lands End, and a percentage of your purchases goes to charity. At iGive.com if you don't find the charity of your choice then you can add your it. The percentage donated to your chosen charity varies between 1 and 20 percent depending on the e-tailer.

With the convenience and variety that web shopping provides they are many easy opportunities to give to your favorite charity. So, now you don't have to wait for the donation envelope to come in the mail or cringe when you get a solicitation call - you can simply say, "I give at the website".
