Q: Is there a simple process that will help me stay on track with my goal? I kind of feel excited and scared at the same time... and usually the fear wins over!
A: Like everything in life that's worthwhile, the road to your goal isn't always an easy path. But from personal experience, it's always worth the effort...even if you fall short. What you have to realize is that it's not really the goal that's important or whether or not you reach it on time. What's important is the growth that you experience on the way...all the things you learn as a result of the next step you take toward your goal. That's the big win! The fact that you look fear and doubt and anxiety straight on and say, "Today, I'm going to take one more step closer to my goal." It may sound "pie in the sky," but for those of you who have experienced any doubt or fear along the way, you know it's just a normal part of "stepping out of the box." You only fail if you quit.
John Ruskin was quoted as saying, "The highest reward for a person's toil is not what they get for it, but what they become by it."
Here are five steps that I use which I find helpful:
- Make sure you state/write down specifically what you want. Your goal must be clear.
- You must really want it to the point where it becomes a consuming desire in your life.
- You must have faith in your ability to achieve it. You will experience doubt from time to time but your desire will eliminate the doubt and faith will take over.
- You are persistent in your efforts.
- You are willing to pay the price for success...whatever the price may be.
