Ancient Indonesian Secret Revealed
Yogurt, jasmine and rice may hold the key to youth and vitality

For most of us, going to a spa and being pampered for a day... or even just a couple of hours, is a luxury to be cherished. But imagine getting the royal treatment for 40 days...

Traditionally, in Java, Indonesia, before a bride-to-be celebrates her wedding day she encounters a lavish 40 day long beauty ritual called a lulur, to insure that her skin is soft and sweet for her wedding night. This ultimate pampering treatment, given by the female members of the family, begins with a massage combining coconut and jasmine oils infused with plants native to the island like pandusus leaves and campuku flowers. The bride-to-be then soaks in a warm flower filled bath as she sips a traditional Jamu, a tonic meant to cleanse the blood and tone the body. This ancient Javanese tradition, which originated in the royal palaces of Central Java, celebrates life, fertility and prosperity and is still practiced by Indonesian women and spa goers in Asia.

Thankfully, Western spa goers won't have to trek all the way to the Far East to indulge. The Canyon Ranch Spa Club located inside the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, is one of two hotels offering this serenity in sin city. " We aim to represent both Western and Eastern properties of wellness for the ultimate cross cultural spa experience," says Massage Manager Shane Bird. One of the spa's signature treatments is the Lulur King's Bath, a true royal ritual celebrating the traditions of Bali and Java, by blending exotic ingredients to enhance both body and mind. "The overall experience brings both outer and inner radiance using a combination of flowers and herbs," says Kim Collier, founder of Jamu Asian Spa Rituals, which brings authentic Asian traditions to select spas around the world including Canyon Ranch.

Take it from someone who recently visited the Canyon Ranch Spa Club-- This was truly the most awesome experience I've ever had at any spa. First, I was massaged with Jasmine oil, Balinese-style, (of course) which combines acupressure and Swedish massage techniques to rejuvenate the muscles and stimulate circulation. I was practically drooling during it. Then my body was exfoliated with turmeric, rice, jasmine and a splash of cool yogurt. Though the yogurt made me a little chilly, what came next surely cured that. I relaxed in warm flower filled copper tub by candlelight. Afterwards, my skin was smoothed with a fragrant Jasmine lotion. I've never felt so relaxed and my skin so soft! This wonderful two-hour treatment can be had for $225.

I only wish I had the time to indulge for forty days! Maybe I'll just have to move to Java. Think there are any good looking single men there in search of a bride?
